There is conviction, and then there is this. The Dolphins took Micah Morris a full 85 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
The Slaughter pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The Moore pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with linebacker still on the board.
They punted on linebacker, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick-by-Pick
A reasonable price with a little left over, Omar Cooper Jr. in slot 40. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had cheaper options than Gabe Jacas at pick 43, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Eli Stowers at No. 62 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
They read the board right and Keionte Scott was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 11. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Steal is underselling it; Jake Slaughter at the Round 3 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board fumbled Ted Hurst all the way to pick No. 108, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A surprising call. With linebacker still to address, they spent pick 113 on Devin Moore, a cornerback they were not short of.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Jalon Kilgore while clear needs at linebacker sat open.
Eli Raridon is a better player than pick No. 151 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They took Zxavian Harris at par in the 155th pick, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
By-the-book stuff, Drew Allar at slot 156 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Demond Claiborne at Round 5, Pick 25 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
Domani Jackson in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They robbed the room for Jeff Caldwell here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Isaiah Jatta well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Enrique Cruz Jr. this early at No. 220. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Bryce Foster at pick No. 223 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
Joshua Braun in Round 7, Pick 11 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Micah Morris at slot 238 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
