The Chiefs spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Tre Harris, the No. 69 name on the board, in Round 7, Pick 1.
The Hemby reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that.
Jack Sawyer is a better player than Round 2, Pick 8 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Ajani Cornelius in the 53rd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Tyleik Williams still on the board at the Round 2 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Donovan Jackson at the 69th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dasan McCullough. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Sonny Styles in pick No. 96. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Elic Ayomanor in No. 102 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They did well to land Riley Mahlman in the 128th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A real head-scratcher, Roman Hemby in the 160th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 193 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
