You build a draft on nights like this. Jabbar Muhammad had no business being available in Round 7, Pick 8, and the Cardinals did the only sane thing and turned in the card. The final tally is a middling C+.
If Van Dyke pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Kelvin Banks Jr. at par in pick 8, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Aeneas Peebles at the 40th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Tyler Van Dyke at No. 72 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jared Wilson well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Preston Stone. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steal is underselling it; J. Michael Sturdivant at Round 6, Pick 8 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jabbar Muhammad at pick No. 200 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor itch, scratched.
