The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cardinals reached some 248 spots for Ty French, and value like that does not grow back. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.
That McCullough pick is the receipt they will wave around later. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Hit on Jonah Savaiinaea and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 14th overall pick they get a blindside protector, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Value said wait; Aeneas Peebles in pick 40 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value with a capital V on Jalen Milroe in pick No. 46, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Ty French in Round 3, Pick 8 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Carson Hinzman at the Round 4 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They barely believed it either: Dasan McCullough still on the board at slot 136. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Moose Muhammad III well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Justin Walley this early at the 200th overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
