You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cardinals did exactly that with Ty French in pick 72. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.
The McCullough value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
So much rides on Jonah Savaiinaea that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 14th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Aeneas Peebles at Round 2, Pick 8 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
Nice patience on Jalen Milroe, who had no business lasting to the 46th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A big swing on Ty French at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Carson Hinzman at pick No. 104 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Dasan McCullough in slot 136 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Moose Muhammad III at pick No. 168 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They talked themselves into Justin Walley at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
