Call it larceny. J.C. Davis sat on the board until the 193rd overall pick, and the Chiefs did not need to be asked twice.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Emery Jones. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay Tyler Booker at No. 64 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tre Harris at the 69th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Ashton Gillotte in pick 96 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Steal is underselling it; T.J. Sanders at the Round 4 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Taking Dasan McCullough in Round 4, Pick 32 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Tommi Hill at slot 160 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 193rd overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
