Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Chiefs, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Grant pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
Emery Jones Jr. at the 40th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They will replay Tyler Booker at Round 2, Pick 32 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kenneth Grant at slot 68 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let an edge rusher like Ashton Gillotte reach the Round 3 slot and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board had Ajani Cornelius higher than pick No. 72, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dasan McCullough at pick 104 is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nic Anderson in the 109th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tommi Hill at pick No. 128 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Value with a capital V on Bryson Nesbit in pick 160, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Akheem Mesidor in the Round 7 slot, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
