Somebody in the 193rd overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Beau Brade, the No. 134 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
Drake Maye is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get the face of the franchise at fair value.
A slide stopped in Round 2, Pick 2, with Terrion Arnold worth more than the price. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No edge and no loss on Kiran Amegadjie in pick No. 68; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jalen McMillan in slot 103. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy bit of business in No. 137, where Ben Sinnott graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Jha'Quan Jackson at par in the 180th pick, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They robbed the room for Beau Brade here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nathan Thomas in the 231st overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
