New England Patriots

Claiborne should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Demond Claiborne had no business being available in pick 202, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

The safety hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.31 · Pick 31 · Kayden McDonald · DT · rank 20
In the Round 1 slot they get a run-stuffing presence up front at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.31 · Pick 63 · Avieon Terrell · CB · rank 17
They will replay Avieon Terrell at the 63rd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A minor itch, scratched.
R3.31 · Pick 95 · Eli Stowers · TE · rank 52
Taking Eli Stowers in No. 95 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Brian Parker II · OT · rank 100
Somehow Brian Parker II was still sitting there in the 125th pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Caden Curry · DE-EDGE · rank 125
They did well to land Caden Curry in pick 131, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.31 · Pick 171 · Nate Boerkircher · TE · rank 154
Nate Boerkircher in Round 5, Pick 31 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
R6.10 · Pick 191 · Aamil Wagner · OT · rank 167
They barely believed it either: Aamil Wagner still on the board at pick No. 191. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.17 · Pick 198 · Taylen Green · QB · rank 181
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Taylen Green at slot 198. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.21 · Pick 202 · Demond Claiborne · RB · rank 155
Steal is underselling it; Demond Claiborne at pick 202 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
R6.31 · Pick 212 · Tyren Montgomery · WR · rank 204
They let Tyren Montgomery come to them and pounced at the Round 6 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Zavion Thomas · WR · rank 221
They robbed the room for Zavion Thomas here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
