Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jake Golday got past him. The Chiefs do not have to explain a thing at pick 109. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Overton has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 9 they get a double-digit-sack hope, though they paid up to get him.
In the 29th pick they get a seam-stretching tight end at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
LT Overton in slot 40 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jonah Coleman at pick 74 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Jake Golday at Round 4, Pick 9 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They went early on Rayshaun Benny in No. 148, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, Eric Rivers at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A slide stopped in the 176th overall pick, with Nate Boerkircher worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Bobby Jamison-Travis in No. 210 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
