Nobody had Trey Moore this high, and it is not close. The Cowboys reached 28 spots to get him at pick No. 152. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.
The Cowboys indulged a want in Thomas while a need in quarterback, tight end and other spots stayed open. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Coleman Jr.. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
If T.J. Parker and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid up for T.J. Parker at pick No. 12 when waiting would have done the job. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A surprising call. With quarterback, tight end and other spots still to address, they spent No. 20 on R Mason Thomas, an edge rusher they were not short of.
A premium they did not need to pay, Nicholas Singleton a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
Taurean York at slot 112 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Trey Moore well ahead of where he belonged. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
They read the board right and Kevin Coleman Jr. was the payoff at the 177th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No edge and no loss on Anez Cooper in slot 180; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Thaddeus Dixon at par in pick 218, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
