The Carson Beck selection is the head-turner. The Dolphins reached 77 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
The Stowers pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 11 they get a two-high chess piece at a price that makes it sweeter.
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
A real head-scratcher, Carson Beck in pick 43 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Eli Stowers at No. 75 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board had Jacob Rodriguez higher than the 87th pick, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Mike Washington Jr. at pick No. 90 is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Malachi Fields in No. 94, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They read the board right and Davison Igbinosun was the payoff at the 130th pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jaeden Roberts in the 151st overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Value with a capital V on Tyren Montgomery in pick 227, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
