There is a lot to like until you notice running back is still a hole. The Saints never got to the one that mattered most. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Llewellyn reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. However the rest shakes out, Johnson at that price is a win they earned.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 8th pick they get a premier pass rusher, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 10, where Chris Johnson graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Dontay Corleone in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Justin Joly at the 132nd overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value said wait; Max Llewellyn in pick 136 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Drew Allar in slot 150, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Cyrus Allen at pick No. 172 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good price on DJ Campbell in No. 190, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
