The Dolphins ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
They banked enough surplus on Rice to cover a lot of smaller sins. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Tupuola-Fetui reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ruke Orhorhoro. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Brandon Dorlus at par in pick No. 75, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board fumbled Brenden Rice all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A quiet steal in the 158th pick: Justin Eboigbe for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They barely believed it either: Dwight McGlothern still on the board at No. 184. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board had Malik Mustapha higher than pick No. 186, and the safety fell to them anyway. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui in slot 198 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Josh Proctor at the 241st pick squarely in line with his ranking. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
