The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Jake Golday, the No. 64 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 3 slot like a gift left on the doorstep.
Dennis-Sutton has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Omar Cooper Jr. in the 48th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Gennings Dunker slipping to pick 63 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Dani Dennis-Sutton in pick No. 65 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Circle this one: Jake Golday at slot 95 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Connor Lew in Round 4, Pick 13, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Gracen Halton at par in No. 122, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jack Endries at the 131st overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Dametrious Crownover in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Jeff Caldwell at Round 6, Pick 10 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Taylen Green in pick No. 198. It fills a real need, too.
Steal is underselling it; Domani Jackson at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They let Cole Payton come to them and pounced at No. 212. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Eli Heidenreich. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
