New England Patriots

Best value of the weekend goes to the Patriots for Stowers: B.

Call it larceny. Eli Stowers sat on the board until the 95th overall pick, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Every board in the league had Caldwell lower, and that gap is the story.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.31 · Pick 31 · Arvell Reese · LB · rank 7
In pick No. 31 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, and a steal at that.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Elijah Sarratt · WR · rank 77
A reach for Elijah Sarratt in Round 3, Pick 5; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.31 · Pick 95 · Eli Stowers · TE · rank 56
Eli Stowers in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.6 · Pick 106 · Domonique Orange · DT · rank 73
Domonique Orange in slot 106 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Jack Endries · TE · rank 123
Jack Endries at the 125th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Jalon Kilgore · CB · rank 104
They will replay Jalon Kilgore at the 131st overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R5.31 · Pick 171 · Jeff Caldwell · WR · rank 193
Jeff Caldwell at No. 171 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.10 · Pick 191 · Taylen Green · QB · rank 194
A straight-up fair deal on Taylen Green at pick 191, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.17 · Pick 198 · Ephesians Prysock · CB · rank 192
Nothing to complain about; Ephesians Prysock went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R6.21 · Pick 202 · Kaleb Elarms-Orr · LB · rank 183
Taking Kaleb Elarms-Orr in the 202nd overall pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R6.31 · Pick 212 · Cole Payton · QB · rank 202
Cole Payton in the 212th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Eli Heidenreich · WR · rank 252
They took Eli Heidenreich at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
