The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Jake Slaughter, Round 3, Pick 31, roughly 37 picks past where he belonged. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They will need Crownover to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
Malachi Lawrence at Round 2, Pick 21 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A slide stopped in pick 72, with Christen Miller worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Eli Stowers at the 76th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jake Slaughter in the 95th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Michael Taaffe was still sitting there in pick No. 99, and they pounced on premier safety value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jalon Kilgore at the Round 4 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 125 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A premium they did not need to pay, Dametrious Crownover a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They read the board right and Oscar Delp was the payoff at pick No. 147. It fills a real need, too.
Kage Casey slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 31 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Value with a capital V on Aamil Wagner in the 191st pick, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jeff Caldwell in No. 198 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Taylen Green at slot 202 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy little value on Cole Payton in the Round 6 slot, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
J'Mari Taylor is a better player than pick 212 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They let Dallen Bentley come to them and pounced at the 223rd overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Thaddeus Dixon at the 247th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
