The board owed the Dolphins one, and it paid up: Arvell Reese, the No. 7 name on the board, sitting there at No. 130 like a gift left on the doorstep. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The McNeil-Warren pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots still on the board. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 11 they get a centerfielder for the defense at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
In No. 30 they get a green-dot type in the middle, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Circle this one: Kadyn Proctor at the Round 2 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kenyon Sadiq at Round 3, Pick 11 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Avieon Terrell in pick No. 87, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren adds a safety and leaves edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots untouched.
Taking Chris Bell in the 94th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Arvell Reese in the 130th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kage Casey at the 151st pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They barely believed it either: Cole Payton still on the board at pick 227. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Dallen Bentley all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
