The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Sedrick Van Pran fell into the Round 4 slot. The bottom line is a respectable B.
If Hall pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a long-term starter on the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid up for Payton Wilson at the Round 2 slot when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They talked themselves into Khyree Jackson at the 87th overall pick, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Audric Estime. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board fumbled Sedrick Van Pran all the way to pick No. 124, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Gabe Hall well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
De'Corian Clark is a better player than pick 212 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jontrey Hunter at slot 245 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 249 with a little surplus value in Demani Richardson. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
