The Dolphins spent real capital to be 46 picks early on Luke Altmyer, and the board is going to hold them to it.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The Dolphins indulged a want in Moore while a need in interior defensive lineman and running back stayed open.
Moore falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 12 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at fair value. A real need, handled.
In the 30th pick they get a ballhawk on the back end. Need was not the driver here.
A reach for Gabe Jacas in the 43rd overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy bit of business in slot 75, where Germie Bernard graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 23, with Treydan Stukes worth more than the price. A minor itch, scratched.
Value said wait; Brian Parker II in pick No. 90 says they were not listening. A need, and now a little less of one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Max Klare in Round 3, Pick 28. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ted Hurst in the 94th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Devin Moore at cornerback with interior defensive lineman and running back open.
Good price on Trey Zuhn III in pick 130, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Oscar Delp all the way to the Round 5 slot, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Aamil Wagner in pick No. 177 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Luke Altmyer at slot 227 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A quiet steal in No. 238: Thaddeus Dixon for less than the market said. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
