The rest of the league will want that one back. JD Bertrand tumbling to the Eagles in the 243rd pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Reaching for Barner left real value on the table behind him.
The trade work was a quiet net positive.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Terrion Arnold. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A slide stopped in pick 54, with T.J. Tampa worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Chris Braswell in the 57th pick is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jonathon Brooks in the 88th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Zak Zinter at pick No. 97 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cole Bishop in Round 5, Pick 1. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Steal is underselling it; Luke McCaffrey at No. 172 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reach on AJ Barner in the Round 6 slot; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They barely believed it either: JD Bertrand still on the board at slot 243. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The board fumbled De'Corian Clark all the way to No. 248, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
