Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Layden Robinson at slot 135 is 28 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Packers indulged a want in Smith while a need in edge rusher, quarterback and other spots stayed open.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a rangy last line of defense, reach and all.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on T.J. Tampa. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick 57 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took Marist Liufau at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Tykee Smith adds a safety and leaves edge rusher, quarterback and other spots untouched.
A tidy little value on Jarrian Jones in the 125th overall pick, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A wild overpay on Layden Robinson in Round 4, Pick 35, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jawhar Jordan at slot 203 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They went early on Trevor Keegan in the Round 6 slot, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Zion Logue in the 219th overall pick, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
Carson Steele in No. 246 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
