The Commanders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jordan Hancock fell into pick 238. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C+ in the wash.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. They will need Taylor to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Mason Taylor this early at the Round 2 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Isaiah Bond at slot 79 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cody Simon slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 9 is lovely value for the linebacker. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Cobee Bryant at the 207th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jordan Hancock in pick 238 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
