There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Dolphins started one anyway for Eric Gentry, 131 picks ahead of schedule. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.
On value alone, Stukes makes the weekend a net positive. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They will answer for taking cornerback early while interior defensive lineman went begging.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.
Pick-by-Pick
They did well to land Emmanuel Pregnon in pick No. 43, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Malachi Lawrence at the 59th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Somehow Emmanuel McNeil-Warren was still sitting there in the 75th pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board fumbled Keionte Scott all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. A minor itch, scratched.
Jake Slaughter in pick 80 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Chase Bisontis at Round 3, Pick 18. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jacob Rodriguez at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Mike Washington Jr. at the 94th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Ted Hurst is a better player than slot 97 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Michael Trigg at par in No. 115, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman still to address, they spent pick 126 on Treydan Stukes, a cornerback they were not short of.
Drew Allar at pick No. 130 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reach on Demond Claiborne in Round 5, Pick 11; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Taylen Green at the 188th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nice patience on Jeff Caldwell, who had no business lasting to pick No. 199. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A real head-scratcher, Eric Gentry in the 221st pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Lander Barton in the 227th overall pick, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
A wild overpay on Marvin Jones Jr. in slot 234, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Isaiah Jatta at Round 7, Pick 19 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
They paid a round early for Bryce Foster in the Round 7 slot, more than the board wanted. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reach for Nolan Rucci in pick 243; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Robert Spears-Jennings in No. 244 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
