You could see the war room lean forward. Jordan Morgan at No. 64 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They did well to land Troy Franklin in pick No. 35, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay Jordan Morgan at pick 64 for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Caelen Carson at the 90th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Marshawn Kneeland in No. 95 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No edge and no loss on Theo Johnson in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Justin Eboigbe slipping to the 158th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Luke McCaffrey at Round 5, Pick 37 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steele Chambers at slot 188 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Somehow Frank Gore Jr. was still sitting there in No. 242, and they pounced on premier running back value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
