After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Reaching for Wilson left real value on the table behind him. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They will answer for taking linebacker early while wide receiver, cornerback and other spots went begging.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd overall pick they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
A tidy bit of business in slot 36, where Jordan Morgan graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Payton Wilson well ahead of where he belonged. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A conviction pick on Zach Frazier at No. 67 that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A want over a need in pick 100: Junior Colson adds a linebacker while wide receiver, cornerback and other spots keeps waiting.
A straight-up fair deal on Blake Fisher at Round 4, Pick 2, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They went early on Ben Sinnott in pick No. 141, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tatum Bethune in the Round 6 slot, miles early. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A reach for Cody Schrader in Round 7, Pick 3; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
