Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jaylan Ford got past him. The Chargers do not have to explain a thing at the 225th overall pick. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid sticker price for T'Vondre Sweat in pick No. 37, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value with a capital V on Payton Wilson in pick 69, a genuine coup. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A quiet steal in No. 105: Caelen Carson for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A tidy little value on Braelon Allen in the 110th pick, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Christian Jones in slot 140. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No drama and no debate, Tip Reiman went about where he belonged in the 181st overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A linebacker of that caliber at Round 7, Pick 5 is the definition of value, full stop. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Josh Wallace in pick 253 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
