Somebody in pick 123 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Ennis Rakestraw Jr., the No. 38 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 23 they get a wrecking ball inside at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Dallas Turner in the Round 2 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Jordan Morgan all the way to Round 3, Pick 22, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the 123rd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They robbed the room for Johnny Wilson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Braelon Allen at No. 164 is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Steele Chambers in slot 239. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
You do not let a running back like Blake Watson reach pick No. 248 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
