Some picks age like wine; Eric Gentry at the 247th overall pick will need to, sitting 105 spots clear of his grade. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.
However the rest shakes out, McNeil-Warren at that price is a win they earned. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick-by-Pick
A conviction pick on Gabe Jacas at pick 43 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached into another round for Jaishawn Barham, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Mason Reiger at the 75th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at Round 3, Pick 23 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Steal is underselling it; Keionte Scott at the 94th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor itch, scratched.
They will replay Jalen Farmer at slot 125 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Michael Trigg at the 130th overall pick is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Dametrious Crownover in Round 5, Pick 11 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Zxavian Harris at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Demond Claiborne in pick No. 162 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Domani Jackson at the 171st pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Jeff Caldwell in slot 211 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Robert Spears-Jennings went about where he belonged in No. 227. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
The board had cheaper options than Bryce Foster at pick 238, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They talked themselves into Eric Gentry at Round 7, Pick 31, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
