The real work happened on the phones. The Chiefs fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
The Sainristil steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Keon Coleman at pick No. 36, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They did well to land Kingsley Suamataia in the 64th pick, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Mike Sainristil at No. 95 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A tidy little value on Trey Benson in pick 99, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A premium they did not need to pay, Marcus Harris a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
Javon Foster slid further than he should have, and the Round 5 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Luke McCaffrey. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Ty'Ron Hopper in Round 5, Pick 36, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
By-the-book stuff, Matthew Jones at pick No. 252 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
