The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Jones. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Morgan at Round 2, Pick 2, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Devontez Walker at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They let DJ James come to them and pounced at slot 104. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Bucky Irving in pick 112 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Christian Jones at pick No. 136 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A clean, defensible pick in the 182nd overall pick with a little surplus value in Jha'Quan Jackson. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Elijah Jones at the 229th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
