Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Charles Grant, the No. 99 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 167th pick.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get protection for the quarterback, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Emeka Egbuka at pick No. 57 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steal is underselling it; Colston Loveland at the 58th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
You do not let a running back like Omarion Hampton reach pick 89 and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Deone Walker at No. 124 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Andrew Mukuba in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Charles Grant in slot 167 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They robbed the room for Cobee Bryant here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
