You build a draft on nights like this. Mike Washington Jr. had no business being available in pick No. 106, and the Texans did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Stephens has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 28 they get a red-zone target to build around, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Caleb Banks at Round 2, Pick 15 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Christen Miller went about where he belonged in pick 59. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jacob Rodriguez in the 69th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They barely believed it either: Mike Washington Jr. still on the board at pick No. 106. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Connor Lew at the 113th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A real head-scratcher, Beau Stephens in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
