Some picks age like wine; Billy Schrauth at slot 58 will need to, sitting 61 spots clear of his grade. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. They banked enough surplus on Fitzgerald to cover a lot of smaller sins. On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a long-term starter on the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Billy Schrauth in the 58th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They read the board right and Julian Neal was the payoff at the 127th pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Bishop Fitzgerald at the Round 4 slot. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Oscar Delp in pick 138 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nothing to complain about; Harold Perkins Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
