Call it larceny. Zakee Wheatley sat on the board until the Round 4 slot, and the Bills did not need to be asked twice. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
If Gusta pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They left with linebacker solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Chris Brazzell II at par in pick No. 26, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jacob Rodriguez in No. 91, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board fumbled Zakee Wheatley all the way to pick 126, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No drama and no debate, Albert Regis went about where he belonged in slot 165. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kage Casey in the 168th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They left a pile of value on the table to take David Gusta this early at the 182nd pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Steal is underselling it; Josh Cameron at Round 7, Pick 4 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
