The Broncos looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Deven Eastern at the 256th overall pick regardless, 23 picks early.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
A premium they did not need to pay, Malachi Fields a notch or two before his time. It fills a real need, too.
They jumped the gun on Jack Endries, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Darrell Jackson Jr. is a better player than No. 111 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A slide stopped in slot 170, with Kevin Coleman Jr. worth more than the price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They went early on Jack Kelly in Round 7, Pick 30, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Deven Eastern at pick 256 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Trey Zuhn III in the 257th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
