Boards are made to be trusted, and the Steelers shredded theirs for Carson Beck. He came off 67 spots early, and the room will hear about it. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Getting Golday where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They went 9 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 21st pick they get a cornerstone up front. Need was not the driver here.
They reached a country mile for Carson Beck at pick 53, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Zachariah Branch slid further than he should have, and No. 76 is lovely value for the wide receiver. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jake Slaughter at Round 3, Pick 21 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Jake Golday in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Taking Chandler Rivers in slot 121 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for DeMonte Capehart in the 135th pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Good price on Drew Allar in No. 161, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They took Riley Nowakowski at par in pick 216, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jimmy Rolder at the 224th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
Isaiah Nwokobia in pick No. 230 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Robert Henry Jr. in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
