Somebody in pick No. 172 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chiefs sat still while Nehemiah Pritchett, the No. 134 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Reaching for Murphy left real value on the table behind him. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a cornerstone up front, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Adonai Mitchell is a better player than No. 43 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Khyree Jackson at pick No. 95 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A big swing on Grayson Murphy at slot 131, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: Johnny Wilson still on the board at pick 158. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They will replay Nehemiah Pritchett at the 172nd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
