The Chiefs did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Quinshon Judkins fell into the 163rd overall pick.
Reaching for Burch left real value on the table behind him. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Derrick Harmon at No. 35 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Booker in Round 2, Pick 4, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached a country mile for Jordan Burch at slot 70, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jihaad Campbell at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
They jumped the gun on Jack Nelson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Savion Williams at the 107th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
DeMonte Capehart at the 131st pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Barrett Carter at pick 133 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They barely believed it either: Quinshon Judkins still on the board at the 163rd pick. It fills a real need, too.
Denver Harris in Round 7, Pick 41 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
