Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Jawhar Jordan, the No. 219 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 251st pick. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The cost of the Nugent reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Stover pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback and interior defensive lineman still on the board.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 31st pick they get an island corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Chop Robinson at slot 41 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Calen Bullock slipping to the Round 2 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Marist Liufau at Round 3, Pick 25 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They let Roman Wilson come to them and pounced at pick 91. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Bucky Irving at the 93rd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went TE-EDGE with Cade Stover while clear needs at quarterback and interior defensive lineman sat open.
They reached into another round for Drake Nugent, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid a round early for Nathan Thomas in pick No. 168, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Austin Stogner at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Taking Javon Baker in the 216th pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They liked Matthew Jones enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 7, Pick 23. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Somehow Jawhar Jordan was still sitting there in the 251st overall pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
