The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named edge rusher, a need the Packers walked right past.
They are betting Magee proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Vaki at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Cooper DeJean in pick No. 25 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Junior Colson at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Zach Frazier in pick 58 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy little value on Max Melton in slot 83, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Fair-plus on Calen Bullock, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Braelon Allen. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid up for Roger Rosengarten at Round 4, Pick 26 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Sione Vaki at the 167th pick is the proof. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Walter Rouse in pick No. 169 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jordan Magee at slot 202 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Garret Greenfield at the Round 6 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value with a capital V on Jalen Sundell in pick 255, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
