Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs did enough to get by: C.

by haydent09 · 2024 NFL Draft · 13 picks · 1 steals · 7 reaches
Value C+

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Myles Cole, 64 picks early at Round 5, Pick 22.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Dixon steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The Tyler Lockett pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.

If Adonai Mitchell and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.4 · Pick 36 · Adonai Mitchell · WR · rank 35
Adonai Mitchell in slot 36 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 48
They paid up for T'Vondre Sweat at the 40th pick when waiting would have done the job. The roster fit checks out.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 49
A straight-up fair deal on T.J. Tampa at No. 43, value and slot in agreement. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 58
Nothing to complain about; Kingsley Suamataia went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 95
No drama and no debate, Brenden Rice went about where he belonged in pick 95. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.19 · Pick 119 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 135
Theo Johnson at pick No. 119 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 152
Malik Mustapha at pick No. 133 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R5.15 · Pick 151 · Eric Watts · DL-EDGE · rank 203
Value said wait; Eric Watts in slot 151 says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.22 · Pick 158 · Myles Cole · DE-EDGE · rank 222
Myles Cole at Round 5, Pick 22 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Emani Bailey · RB · rank 208
A wild overpay on Emani Bailey in the 172nd pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.19 · Pick 194 · Johnny Dixon · CB · rank 181
Johnny Dixon at the 194th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R6.24 · Pick 199 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 195
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaylan Ford in the Round 6 slot. It fills a real need, too.
R7.13 · Pick 233 · Eyabi Okie-Anoma · DL-EDGE · rank 264
Eyabi Okie-Anoma at pick 233 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
