You could see the war room lean forward. Kris Abrams-Draine at the Round 5 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Job largely done: interior defensive lineman settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 6 they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in the 39th pick with a little surplus value in Tyler Nubin. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Patrick Paul at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
D.J. James at the 70th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It fills a real need, too.
McKinnley Jackson in pick 107 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Taking Kris Abrams-Draine in No. 143 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Curtis Jacobs in Round 6, Pick 10. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
