You could see the war room lean forward. Josh Newton at slot 184 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Milton III reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
The trade work was a quiet net positive. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front, and a steal at that.
Amarius Mims at pick 55 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Xavier Worthy in Round 3, Pick 2 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Isaac Guerendo in pick No. 158 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A cornerback of that caliber at slot 184 is the definition of value, full stop. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They liked Joe Milton III enough to skip the value, taking him in the 186th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Mason McCormick at No. 198 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Circle this one: M.J. Devonshire at the 241st overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
