The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched David Walker slide 53 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. The Sampson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Nothing to complain about; Kelvin Banks Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Dylan Sampson at the 44th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
They went early on Savion Williams in slot 76, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Jordan Phillips in Round 5, Pick 11 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Tyler Shough in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Circle this one: Tahj Brooks at pick No. 174 is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Quincy Riley in No. 204, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They barely believed it either: David Walker still on the board at pick 211. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Cody Lindenberg at pick No. 239 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jordan Hancock at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
