Somebody in pick No. 241 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Dolphins sat still while Cornelius Johnson, the No. 189 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Milton III pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
The trade work was a quiet net positive. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
A slide stopped in pick 29, with JC Latham worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kool-Aid McKinstry at the 55th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Nothing to complain about; Kingsley Suamataia went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kalen King in Round 5, Pick 23 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
A big swing on Joe Milton III at slot 164, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Jaheim Bell was still sitting there in the 184th overall pick, and they pounced on premier tight end value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Curtis Jacobs at par in No. 198, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
You do not let a wide receiver like Cornelius Johnson reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
