Thirty-one other rooms let Luke McCaffrey slide, and the Packers were the ones holding the card at the 169th pick. Highway robbery.
They will answer for taking linebacker early while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots went begging. Every board in the league had Eichenberg lower, and that gap is the story.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
A reasonable price with a little left over, Byron Murphy II in Round 1, Pick 25. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jordan Morgan at the 41st overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good price on Junior Colson in the 58th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Andru Phillips in No. 88 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jaden Hicks in pick No. 91 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Tommy Eichenberg while clear needs at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots sat open.
Luke McCaffrey in slot 169 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board had cheaper options than Drake Nugent at the Round 6 slot, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
They did well to land Caedan Wallace in No. 219, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A running back of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A clean, defensible pick in the 255th pick with a little surplus value in Josh Wallace. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
