Dallas Cowboys

Best value of the weekend goes to the Cowboys for Horton: B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Tory Horton had no business being available in the Round 7 slot, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card.

Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The cost of the Jones Jr. reach is exactly the players who went right after him. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.

A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.16 · Pick 16 · Matthew Golden · WR · rank 11
In the 16th pick they get a true top target at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Tyleik Williams · DT · rank 42
They paid sticker price for Tyleik Williams in pick No. 44, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Maxwell Hairston · CB · rank 73
A clean, defensible pick in the 76th overall pick with a little surplus value in Maxwell Hairston. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.13 · Pick 115 · Emery Jones Jr. · OT · rank 126
The board had cheaper options than Emery Jones Jr. at No. 115, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.11 · Pick 149 · Tahj Brooks · RB · rank 123
They barely believed it either: Tahj Brooks still on the board at Round 5, Pick 11. The roster fit checks out.
R5.33 · Pick 171 · Tyler Shough · QB · rank 137
Circle this one: Tyler Shough at slot 171 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.36 · Pick 174 · Logan Brown · OT · rank 145
Logan Brown at pick 174 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.28 · Pick 204 · DJ Giddens · RB · rank 167
A running back of that caliber at the Round 6 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
R6.35 · Pick 211 · Jamon Dumas-Johnson · LB · rank 221
A conviction pick on Jamon Dumas-Johnson at slot 211 that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.23 · Pick 239 · Tory Horton · WR · rank 110
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Tory Horton in the 239th overall pick, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Damien Martinez · RB · rank 150
Somehow Damien Martinez was still sitting there in the Round 7 slot, and they pounced on premier running back value. A need, and now a little less of one.
