Nobody else had Kedon Slovis anywhere near pick No. 255. The Packers did, by 50 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Turner. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a premier pass rusher, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. A minor itch, scratched.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Max Melton in pick No. 58, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Trey Benson in the 88th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Zak Zinter in pick 91 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reach for Beau Brade in the Round 4 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A wild overpay on Tanor Bortolini in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
A premium they did not need to pay, Nathaniel Watson a notch or two before his time. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Sheridan Jones at pick 219 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid sticker price for Jalen Sundell in Round 7, Pick 25, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Kedon Slovis at the 255th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
