Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Javon Foster got past him. The Packers do not have to explain a thing at pick No. 169. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A slide stopped in pick No. 41, with Graham Barton worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
Cooper DeJean in No. 58 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Steal is underselling it; Xavier Worthy at slot 88 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Fair-plus on Jaden Hicks, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Braelon Allen in pick 126, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 169th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Curtis Jacobs at Round 6, Pick 27 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A clean, defensible pick in the 219th pick with a little surplus value in Garret Greenfield. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
